Easy To Do Badly.
Welcome to my blog. I chose the title as it has been a recurring memory of mine since the time when, buying black and white paper and chemicals in preparation for my first experience of processing and printing my own photographs, I asked the shopkeeper “Is it easy?”, to which he replied “It’s easy to do badly’. He was right, processing film and, especially, producing black and white silver halide prints in a darkroom is easy to do badly (I did get better) and the pronouncement is indeed true for almost every aspect of photography. It’s easy to do badly. This is not a negative statement; it really is quite difficult to capture the fleeting moments of life on film or sensor and then bringing the results to life as a unique entity: a photograph. Difficult and wonderful. When we understand this we can dwell less on the difficulty and rejoice more in the chase.
